The Snakes are minor characters featured in the Disney Junior animated series, Jake and the Never Land Pirates. They are long, scaly reptiles that inhabit Never Land and the primary inhabitants of Slippery Snake River. Their vocal effects are provided by Dee Bradley Baker.
Role in the series[]
The Snakes first appeared in the episode "The Never Night Star". After overhearing Jake and his crew searching for the legendary City of Gold, Captain Hook decides to claim the treasure for himself as he and his crew gain a huge lead to the treasure. But the only thing standing in Captain Hook's way was Slippery Snake River, Hook reveals his fear of snakes. But the greedy captain muscles up enough courage to cross the wooden log like a bridge to the other side. To assure he keeps his lead over the Jake and his crew, Hook kicks the log into the river, but as Hook gloats, two snakes slither out of the river due to Hook's action, causing Hook and his scurvy band to flee deeper into the Never Land Jungle. Once Jake and his friends reach the river, they were briefly puzzled on how to get across. But soon, they spot a large palm tree hang over the river, allowing the young pirates to cross to the other side.Jake and his crew soon reach the City of Gold,Jake notice that by putting his sword in the way of the light the city isn't made of gold; it is just the light from the Never Star shining upon the city. Captain Hook, however, doesn't believe Jake. Hook orders his crew to take every brick from the city. Jake and his crew drive Captain Hook away by playing on his fear of snakes, Skully use some jungle vines and intimating hissing snakes, causing Captain Hook to thinks that they are real snakes and runs back to the Jolly Roger along with the rest of his crew.
In the episode "The Creature of Doubloon Lagoon", while cleaning the Mighty Colossus Cubby accidentally triggers a signal flare cannon that summoned a mysterious Gill Creature aboard the ship. Later in pursuit of treasure, Captain Hook chases after the Gill Creature through Spooky Swamp where he hid amongst the darkness of the swamp remaining perfectly still hoping Hook and his crew would pass mistaking him for a tree within the darkness. It wasn't until Bones used his various animal communication skills to uncover the Gill Creature who flees from the swamp to Doubloon Lagoon where he hid a treasure, a golden sword once belonging Captain Colossus. As Hook and his crew give chase through the swamp they become stuck in the muck allowing Jake and his crew to catch up by swinging through the swamps by the hanging vines. Hook suggests that he and his crew do the same as Hook pulls one of the vines down revealing to be a snake send Hook and his crew fleeing in terror through the swamp and back ahead of Jake and his crew.

In the book Save Me, Smee!, Captain Hook finds a treasure map that leads him into the most perilous places in all of Never Land. Slippery Snake River was the first location Hook and Mr. Smee journey through to find the treasure,as Hook makes his way through the river,he was to focus on the map that he accidentally steps on one of the Slippery Snakes,causing both Hook and Smee to fall into the river.Luckily Jake and his crew were passing by and decided to help, using a vine to pull both Hook and Smee out of Slippery Snake River.
