Marina is a recurring character from the Disney Junior animated series, Jake and the Never Land Pirates. She is a young mermaid who is a good friend of Jake and his crew and has a little sister named Stormy. She is voiced by Ariel Winter.
Personality[]
Marina is a beautiful and compassionate young mermaid and unlike the mermaids shown in the first two films, she is helpful and unselfish. She joins Jake and the crew on occasions and when she does it makes all the difference. She has a pet starfish named Sandy who she cares for and loves deeply. She is also shown to have the ability to communicate with the creatures of the Never Sea (as revealed in "Bucky's Anchor Aweigh!").
Physical Appearance[]
Marina is a slender young mermaid with fair skin, rosy cheeks, black hair with purple streaks, and teal eyes. Her usual attire consists of a pink, frilly tank top and lavender sea shell earrings. As a mermaid, Marina has a sea green fish-like tail.
Role in the series[]
Marina is said to be the undersea pirate who helps Jake with the rules of the water and comes to help when Jake and his crew deal with major water adventures. She first appeared giving Izzy surfing lessons in the episode "Surfin' Turf", and joined Jake and his crew to save their surfboard from Captain Hook. She played a supporting role in the episode "Jake's Starfish Search", where she asks Jake to watch Sandy the Starfish while she goes to her undersea ballet class.
Marina is briefly mentioned in the episode "The Elephant Surprise!", While Jake and his crew are playing volleyball, Cubby discovers a large wooden elephant as a gift for the crew on the beach. Jake seemed to be curious along with the rest of his crew-mates, Marina was one of Jake's guess as to which of their Never Land friends left the wooden elephant as a gift. Unknown to Jake and his crew at the time, Captain Hook and Mr. Smee were hiding inside of the elephant in order to gain access into Jake and his crew's treasure room.
In "Jake's Jungle Groove", Izzy and Cubby show Jake how to dance the Skull and Bones Stomp so he can be ready for the dance party on Pirate Island with Marina and her friends using Peter Pan's bongos which also makes Captain Hook dance very strangely. When Hook tries to steal the bongos, a mischievous monkey takes them. Marina makes a brief appearance at the end dancing with Jake, Izzy, Cubby, Skully and two mermaids.
Marina played a large role in the episode "Save the Coral Cove!" Captain Hook and Mr. Smee are planning to dig up the bottom of the sea destroying many sea creatures' homes. She goes to Jake for help but Hook ends up being chased away by an octopus and later his treasure digging machine that somehow gains a mind of its own. The machine attempts to attack Jake's ship but Marina ties a cord attached to it onto a shipwreck but it doesn't hold. Izzy defeats the machine and the cove is safe.
In the episode "Pirate Rock!", Marina overheard Jake's crew performing their song. She told them they should perform a show, much to the pirate's delight. She left to gather their friends to watch them perform at Pirate Rock. Marina is later seen amongst Jake and his crews Never Land friends enjoying the pirates performance.
In "It's a Winter Never Land!", Marina and some other friends got together with Jake and his crew to celebrate a Christmas themed holiday. At the end of the episode, Captain Hook successfully stole all the gifts and the tree, however, Marina convinces her friends that their friendship is the only thing they need to have a fun holiday.
In "Bucky's Anchor Aweigh!", Marina and the pirates get together to present a gift to the ship Bucky, a golden anchor. However, Hook and his crew steal the anchor having Bucky chasing after them. Even though Bucky left, he left the crew behind. Marina suggests the pirates use an old washed up dingy that fortunately still floats. With the help of their octopus friend, they manage to reunite with Bucky and retrieve the anchor.
Marina is apparently the guardian of the sea, as indicated in "Undersea Bucky!". When the light of the mermaid dominated Neptune City vanishes, Marina was called forth to find a solution to the problem. Jake and his follow Marina through the depths of the Never Sea with Bucky's latest transformation. As they explore the group wonders of the depth of the Never Sea they discover that the Pink Pearl was knocked out of the hand of the King Neptune statue by the Jolly Roger's missing anchor. While Marina and Jake and his crew try to restore the pearl to its resting place they run into Captain Hook and Mr. Smee who were originally on the hunt for the missing anchor but Hook couldn't pass up a chance to swipe the pearl from the Jake and his crew, but he was thwarted yet again by the young pirate team and sent fleeing back to the Jolly Roger along with Smee and the missing anchor with a hungry shark in pursuit. Allowing Marina to restore the pearl back to the statue as the warm glow of the Pink Pearl call the mermaids back to Neptune City.
Marina reappears in the episode "The Mermaid's Song ", Marina asks her little sister Stormy to complete three mer-tasks for an upcoming event. However, Stormy openly refuses but decides to eventually. When Marina departs, Stormy uses the Mermaid's Song to brainwash the treasure-seeking Captain Hook and forces him to find seashells. She then brainwashes Mr. Smee to collect seaweed, and Cubby to collect coconuts. Eventually, Stormy's brief partner-in-crime Snappy the Hermit Crab, would rush off to warn Marina about her sister. When Jake, Izzy, and Skully arrived, Marina quickly informed them of the problem but told the young pirates to clap their hands to wake Hook, Smee, and Cubby from the spell. Marina angrily knew Stormy was responsible and calls her out for using the Mermaid Song for selfish reasons. Stormy apologized for her actions and Marina reminds her that the Mermaid Song should only be used for helping others and not for selfish reasons.
Marina returned in "Treasure of the Tides " when the mermaids decide to make Izzy an honorary mermaid. Later that night, she joined the other mermaids when they crowned Izzy "Mermaid of the Year".
In "Izzy's Trident Treasure ", Marina and Stormy asked Izzy for help in finding King Neptune's legendary trident. The map Marina and Stormy found leads to Mount Mer-suvias, a mountain in the middle of a dried-up a lake in the desert. Since the mermaids can't walk on land and only a mermaid can touch Neptune's Trident. Since Izzy was once an honorary mermaid she can touch the trident and walk on land. Jake and his crew set out to find the trident with the two mermaids. They get to Never Land and sail trough Sandbar Straits with the help of Marina and Stormy. Captain Hook sees them and finds that they are looking for the trident. He wants the trident and he says that he is going to take it but the Jolly Roger gets stuck in the sandbar so he has to use a rowboat. Jake and his crew have to use a rowboat because of the thin canal but the current is too strong for them so they need Marina and Stormy to help them. Marina and Stormy accompany Jake and his crew getting through the strong currents.
Marina is briefly mentioned in the episode "Cubby's Pet Problem " Stormy joins Jake and his crew exploring the wonders of the Never Sea when the puny pirate team encountered a baby sea serpent at the Cave of Neptune. Stormy leaves Jake and his crew when she hears Marina's bell calling her for snack time.
Marina makes a speaking cameo appearance along with her sister Stormy, Sandy the Starfish and the rest of the puny pirate teams Never Land friends took part in Jake's birthday celebration in "Jake's Birthday Bash!"
Marina and Stormy make a brief nonspeaking cameo appearance in the episode "Captain Who?" The young mermaids present the amnesia striking Captain Hook a large clam with a huge pearl inside in hopes of restoring Hook's memory but it fails. Marina reappears in the episode "Seahorse Saddle-Up!" as the host of the seahorse race.
Marina and Stormy reappear in the episode "Sandy and the Clams" taken part in the concert held by Sandy and his singing clam trio at Mermaid Lagoon.
Marina and Stormy reappear in the episode special "Jake's Never Land Rescue". While following the ball of light sent by the Guardian, Jake ends up at Mermaid Lagoon. Jake runs into Marina, Stormy, and Sandy the Starfish, and the threat of Never Land disappearing has even effected the mermaids of Neptune City, forcing them to flee. Jake asked Marina and Stormy if they knew of a means to restore Cubby's map, the young mermaids told him that only the magical ink of the Golden Squid was capable of doing so. To reach the Squid, the young mermaids summoned Flo the Dolphin to escort Jake through the depths of the Never Sea.
In the episode "Jake's Royal Rescue", Marina and the mermaids prepare a show in the honor of Queen Coralie arrival. Jake and his crew soon arrive with gifts for the queen, when they spot the queen's golden chariot without her and discover a message in a bottle from Captain Hook demanding a treasure for Coralie's safe return. Marina soon dreaded the horrible fate that may befall the queen. But Jake soon reassured Marina that he and his crew will rescue Queen Coralie. Marina is last seen at the end of the adventure alongside the other mermaids singing for Queen Coralie.
Marina makes a nonspeaking cameo appearance in the episode "Trading Treasures", Marina appears at the end of the episode attending Queen Coralie's Fin and Frolic dance party dancing with two mermaids.
In the episode "The Mermaid Queen's Voice", Queen Coralie was set to host and perform a concert at Mermaid Lagoon but come down with laryngitis right before the concert begins. Marina appears at her queen's side speaking on her behalf when they ask Jake and his crew to help cure Queen Coralie. Marina was present when Jake and his crew return to Mermaid Lagoon with the Fa la la water that would cure Queen Coralie. as Jake was about to hand the bottle to Queen Coralie, Captain Hook swoops in and stealing the bottle. This is short-lived as Hook gloats the captain is quickly scolded by his mother who arrives at the lagoon as Queen Coralie's guest. Marina again speaking for her queen revealed that Coralie only wanted to perform her concert in Mama Hook's honor. Marina is last seen amongst Jake and their Never Land friends enjoying the duet between Queen Coralie and Captain Hook.
Marina reappears in the episode "A Royal Misunderstanding" , as one of the dancers in Queen Coralie's ballet performances but find herself caught in the middle of a dispute between Queen Coralie and King Crab fortunately Jake and his crew soon arrive to watch both the crabs race and mermaids dance to suggest both Coralie and King Crab share the beach. However, both Captain Hook also desired the location for his date with Red Jessica.
Marina reappears in the episode "Sleeping Mermaid", She joins Jake and his crew accompanied by Queen Coralie as they collect seashells on the beach, the queen notice a stone message on rock wall warning the dangers of the Spell Shell which has the power to put anyone into a deep sleep. Marina soon discovers the Spell Shell, but as she hands the shell to her queen it puts Coralie into a deep sleep. The only way to reverse the spell is if Jake and his crew must convince Captain Hook to help. Hook reluctantly agrees to assist the mermaid queen in order to claim the huge pearl Marina offers for his reward.
Marina makes a brief appearance in the episode special "Battle for the Book". Peter Pan is summoned by Queen Coralie to defend Mermaid Lagoon from a vicious sea beast that has entered the lagoon. Marina and her sister Stormy can be seen cowering in fear next to Queen Coralie witnessing Peter battle the sea beast.
Marina reappears in the episode "Captain Frost", Captain Hook armed with the magical North Wind Snowflake he stole from Captain Frost arrive at Mermaid Lagoon. Hook threatens Marina and the other mermaids to give him their treasure or he will take he'll take it by force, using the North Wind Snowflake's power to freeze the lagoon forcing Marina and the other mermaids to safety. With Mermaid Lagoon frozen Captain Hook and his crew attempt to retrieve the treasure. However, this is short-lived once Jake and his crew arrive accompanied by Captain Frost thwart Hook's efforts knocking the treasure back into the lagoon, allowing Marina and the other mermaids to hide it somewhere Hook will never find it.
Marina and Stormy reappear in the episode "The Tale of Ratsputin". while swimming near an old shipwreck the mermaids believe they witness Ratsputin, a mysterious giant bilge rat. Jake and his crew team up with Brewster the Beast Trapper to try and capture Ratsputin.
Marina and Stormy reappear in the episode special "The Great Never Sea Conquest". When the evil Mer-wizard named Lord Fathom is released from an underwater prison, he sets out to take over the Never Sea. Lord Fathom tricks the mermaid in revealing the location of the DarkLight Emerald the source of Lord Fathom's power. Using the powers of his sword, Jake finally defeats Fathom and the Strake. He then re-imprisons the Strake and destroys the Darklight Emerald, freeing Queen Coralie, Marina, Stormy, and the sea creatures.
Marina and Stormy make a brief reappearance in the episode "The Island of Doctor Undergear", with the threat of the lava flow from Belch Mountain reaching Mermaid Lagoon, Marina and Stormy are sent fleeing to safety by submerging beneath the Never Sea.
While not having anything to do with the plot of the episode, Marina makes a brief cameo appearance in the episode special "The Legion of Pirate Villains". During the post-credits, Marina, Stormy and Queen Coralie are seen waving at Jake and his friends as the Mighty Colossus sails past them.

Marina's largest role in printed media is in the book "Surfin' Turf", based on the episode of the same name. When Marina is giving Izzy surfing lessons at Mermaid Lagoon, Captain Hook steals Izzy's surfboard. Jake and his crew, accompanied by Marina, rush to retrieve the board before it goes over Rainbow Falls and becomes a pile of splintered wood.
Marina is featured in the book "Treasure of the Tides", based on the episode of the same name. Izzy joins Marina and the other mermaids at Hidden Cove for the Treasure of the Tides ceremony. But that sneaky snook Captain Hook has his eye on the mermaid's treasure.
Marina makes a minor appearance in "Birthday Bash" and "Winter Never Land". Marina, Stormy, and Queen Coralie make a brief appearance in the printed media is the storybook adaption of the episode special "Battle for the Book", when Peter Pan comes to the mermaid's assistance in dealing with a large sea monster that has entered Mermaid Lagoon.
In the book "Follow That Sound", Cubby has plans to play his harmonica at Marina the Mermaid's big party tonight. But that sneaky snook Captain Hook hates the sound of the Cubby playing his harmonica, and attempts to put a stop to it. After reclaiming Cubby's harmonica from a mischievous monkey and falling into Captain Hook's grasp. Later that evening, Cubby and the monkey play their instruments at Marina's party.
Marina, Stormy and Queen Coralie reappear in the storybook adaptation of the episode special "The Great Never Sea Conquest". Marina makes a minor appearance in the book adaptation of "Pixie Dust Away!".

Marina appears in the "Jake's Never Land Pirate School App." She can be spotted during the Map & Spyglass segment while learning to navigate Never Land with Cubby and then use the spyglass to find exciting treasures with Jake.
Marina makes a brief appearance in the Disney Junior online game "Jake's Never Land Rescue Game", during the cut-scene when Jake needs to find the magical ink of the Golden Squid to restore Cubby's Map.
Marina makes a brief cameo in the Disney Junior online game "Sharky and Bones' Pirate Rock", where Sharky and Bones host a concert on Pirate Rock and its up to the player to collect the various gems as Sharky and Bones play hit songs from the series.

Stormy[]
Stormy is Marina's younger sister. Unlike Marina, Stormy was initially very lazy and somewhat selfish and was rather rude to Jake and his crew. To avoid doing work, Stormy would brainwash others to do the work for her using the powerful siren song called the "Mermaid's Song" in the episode of the same name. Marina soon learns of Stormy abusing the power of the Mermaid's Song and while she was briefly angry with her, she knew Stormy meant no harm and reminds her sister that the song's power must never be used for selfish reasons. Later, through the course of the series, Stormy began to act more friendly, but still more spirited than her older sister.
Sandy the Starfish[]
Sandy is Marina's pet starfish, whom she cares for and loves deeply. The two share a very close bond and are almost always seen together. As seen in Sandy's debut, Marina entrusts Jake and his crew to watch Sandy for her while she goes to her undersea ballet class. In the episode "Save the Coral Cove!", Captain Hook and Smee plan to dig up Coral Cove, which would result in destroying Sandy and the other sea creatures' homes in search of treasure. Marina goes to Jake for help to put a stop to Hook's plot.

Marina is said to have romantic feelings toward Jake, and seems to care for Jake's safety more than anyone else. She also seems to create a small change in Jake's personality. Marina became very excited when Jake joined her in the water in the episode "Surfin' Turf", and even had a slight blush, possibly because of her crush. In the episode "Jake's Starfish Search", when Marina asked Jake to watch her pet starfish Sandy, she asked in a flirtatious tone.In the episode "Jake's Jungle Groove", Jake was very nervous he would not learn the Skull and Bones Stomp's dance steps in time for the dace party and didn't want to look foolish in front of Marina and her friends.While the series didn't confirm Marina's crush on Jake ,it was implied when Marina's voice actress Ariel Winter stated during an early interview for the show:
"I think Marina may have a little crush on Jake. I've seen that a bit throughout the script. She's always there to help him in her sweetest voice..."
Izzy[]
In the episode "Surfin' Turf", Marina was giving Izzy surfing lessons. In the episode "Treasure of the Tides", Marina and the other mermaids make Izzy a mermaid tail out seaweed so when she joins them on the journey to Hidden Cove. Unknown to Izzy and her mermaid friends Captain Hook was spying on them with Mr. Smee set sail to Hidden Cove. Izzy and the mermaids soon become aware of the captain's plot race to the cove to stop him. At the end of the episodes, the mermaids decide to make Izzy an honorary mermaid. Later that night, she joined the other mermaids when they crowned Izzy "Mermaid of the Year".
In the episode "Izzy's Trident Treasure", Marina and Stormy come to Pirate Island needing the assistance of Jake and his crew. Stormy explains to them that she found a Map to Neptune's Trident. It located on a mountain that is in the desert. Sense mermaids can't walk on land they can retrieve the trident. Izzy offers her assistants being an honorary mermaid, she can touch the trident. After preventing the powers of the trident from following to Captain Hook's grasp Izzy returns the trident to Marina and Stormy.
Cubby[]
While in the series Marina and Cubby rarely communicate, but they are in good terms with one another. In the storybook Follow That Sound, Cubby plans to play his harmonica at Marina's big party tonight. But as he practices he disrupts Captain Hook attempts to take a nap on the beach. Hook plots to put a stop to Cubby's playing. After reclaiming Cubby's harmonica from a mischievous monkey and keeping it from falling into Captain Hook's grasp. Cubby is finally able to play his harmonica. Later that evening Cubby and the monkey play their instruments at Marina's party much to her delight.

Marina and Skully rarely communicate, but they are in good terms with one another.
Queen Coralie[]
Marina cares and respects Queen Coralie deeply. In "Jake's Royal Rescue", Marina was insistent on making Queen Coralie's welcoming pageant perfect for her. When Marina found out that Coralie was held prisoner by Captain Hook, she declared it a very sad for all mermaids.
Captain Hook[]
Captain Hook is an enemy of Marina and her people, constantly bullying the mermaids into revealing their secret treasures hidden deep below the depths of the Never Sea, not to mention constantly stealing from Jake and his crew.
In "Jake's Royal Rescue", Hook tried to hold Queen Coralie for ransom to gain access to the mermaids vast riches,But the queen ego and her constant mispronouncing of Hook's name was too much for the captain to bare that he gives up on his plot and simply allows Jake and his crew to rescue the queen just to get rid of her.
In the episode "Captain Frost", When Captain Hook gains the power of the North Wind Snowflake he uses the gems power to freeze Mermaid Lagoon allowing the captain to retrieve the treasure and even threaten to freeze Marina and the other two mermaids if they stand in his way.
In the "Sleeping Mermaid", Captain Hook was the only one who could break the sleeping spell on Queen Coralie, Hook refuse to help Coralie, but with a little help from Marina using a large pearl as a reward Hook agreed to assist, playing on Hook's greed. Everything seem to go as planned until Hook found out that he had to kiss the mermaid queen to break the spell and refuse believing that she deceived him.

- Despite her actress confirming Marina's crush on Jake, the creators have yet to confirm this or not.
- The flying surfboard ride at the end of "Surfin' Turf" is reminiscent of the flying carpet ride in the Disney animated feature film, Aladdin.
- Marina only has a cameo at the end of the special "Peter Pan Returns", despite being the first hour-long episode of the series. This also happens in the special "Battle for the Book".
- Marina is the fifth character in the series to have a solo song (in the episode "Undersea Bucky!"). The first being Izzy in "Surfin' Turf", the second being Cubby in "The Golden Twilight Treasure!", the third being Captain Hook in "Treasure Show and Tell!", and the fourth being Peter Pan in the special "Peter Pan Returns".
