The Key to Skull Rock first appeared in the episode "The Key to Skull Rock", Jake and his crew receive a message and the skeleton key from Peter Pan while on Pirate Island beach. The young pirates set sail to discover the mystery at the top of Skull Rock unknown to the young pirates they were being spied on by Captain Hook and Mr. Smee. Hook manages to steal the key from the puny pirates and gain a lead to Skull Rock while sailing through Blue Whale Way when a few whales block Bucky's path. While trying to keep his lead to Skull Rock Hook accidentally sails through the wrong Never Sea Twin Tunnel and get both his vessel the Jolly Roger stuck in the tunnel and drops the skeleton key while fleeing from Tick-Tock the Crocodile who creeps aboard the Jolly Roger forcing Hook and Smee to abandon ship with the crocodile in pursuit. Allowing Jake and his crew to recover the skeleton key with Skully's help. The crew opened Skull Rock with the key and discover inside there was an observatory for stargazing. While looking threw the telescope Jake and his crew saw a star formation in the shape of Peter Pan.
The Key to Skull Rock appears in the storybook adaptation of The Key to Skull Rock. After receiving a note from Peter Pan, Jake and his crew set off for a treasure hunt to Skull Rock. A special treasure is locked away there, and Peter has given Jake the key. But that old codfish Captain Hook takes the key and leads Jake on a chase across the Never Sea.
The Key to Skull Rock appears in the Disney Junior online "Jake's Treasure Hunt", while searching for a treasure on Never Land Jake and his crew uncover the key while on the beach.
