The Flying fish first appeared in the episode special '"The Great Never Sea Conquest". When the evil Mer-wizard, Lord Fathom is released from an underwater prison, he sets out to take over the Never Sea by awakening the legendary giant, three-headed serpent, the Strake. The Flying fish were among the various sea creature being controlled by Lord Fathom during his hostile take over of the Never Sea. The Flying fish lead the charge during the first wave of the battle between Jake and the other captains ripping the sails of the Bucky and other pirate ships. Lord Fathom attempted to use the Flying fish once more when dealing with the Mighty Colossus but the battleship proved much for the creatures of the Never Sea. Then, Jake finally defeats Fathom and the Strake is re-imprisoned in Dreadnaught Cove. Lastly, Jake destroys the DarkLight Emerald, freeing Queen Coralie, Marina, Stormy, and the sea creatures.
The Flying fish only appearance in printed media is in the storybook adaptation of the episode special The Great Never Sea Conquest . Just like the episode they were being controlled by Lord Fathom.
